Dawn Yelvington

Accelerated Resolution Therapist, PhD, LMFT

Dr. Dawn Yelvington is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Qualified Supervisor, and the founder of Healing Hearts Therapies & Equine. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals heal from trauma, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, grief, anxiety, depression, and relational challenges. She is certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and is passionate about providing compassionate, trauma-informed care that supports lasting recovery.

As a therapist at SJRP, Dr. Yelvington conducts comprehensive clinical assessments, provides individual counseling and ART sessions, and collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop individualized treatment plans that address each client’s unique needs. She works alongside clients throughout their recovery journey, helping them build healthy coping skills, strengthen relapse prevention strategies, prepare for successful discharge, and develop the confidence and resilience necessary for long-term sobriety and emotional wellness.

Dr. Yelvington also provides equine-assisted therapy through SJRP’s partnership with Healing Hearts Therapies & Equine. Equine-assisted therapy offers clients meaningful opportunities to build confidence, improve emotional regulation, develop healthy communication skills, and strengthen trust through experiential interactions with horses. These sessions often become a transformative part of the recovery process, helping clients reconnect with themselves while fostering hope, self-awareness, and personal growth.

Her therapeutic style is integrative, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Experiential Therapy. She believes in meeting each client where they are and creating a safe, supportive environment that empowers individuals to discover their strengths, overcome barriers, and create meaningful, lasting change.

As a Florida Qualified Supervisor, Dr. Yelvington provides clinical supervision for registered interns and mentors practicum and internship students completing their graduate training through SJRP. She values creating a supportive learning environment where developing therapists can strengthen their clinical skills, build professional confidence, and grow into ethical, compassionate practitioners.

Whether working with clients or mentoring future clinicians, Dr. Yelvington is dedicated to fostering healing, resilience, and hope through evidence-based, relationship-centered care.
