Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) in Addiction Rehab
Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) uses low-frequency music and tactile vibrations as well as full-spectrum music to create amazing, immersive sound, relaxation, and meditative experiences.
Since the beginning of human civilization music and vibrations have been incorporated into every society due to the almost universal love of how it makes us feel!
How Does Vibroacoustic Therapy Work?
Clients lay on a specially designed table that has internal tactile transducers that apply vibrations directly to the body while listening through headphones to the music that is creating those exact vibrations.
This real-time “hearing and feeling” of the same frequencies simultaneously creates an immersive effect that gives VAT a unique ability to impact the total mind, body and spirit. True acoustic resonance occurs between the body and the table, inducing incredible feelings of euphoria and clarity.
VAT helps clients relax through its unique ability to reset their autonomic nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic in as little as 22 minutes! The sympathetic nervous system controls your “fight or flight” response while the parasympathetic nervous system brings your body into a state of calm, or “rest and digest.” This makes VAT a powerful tool for reducing stress and promoting relaxation, which can have numerous benefits for overall health and wellbeing.

VAT and NIT
Vibroacoustic Therapy is an integral part of the Neurointegration Therapy (NIT) program at SJRP. We begin by measuring brainwave patterns using a QEEG, which is a digitized version of a regular EEG. After analyzing the QEEG, a 3D “Brain Map” is created to show areas of higher or lower than normal brainwave activity, helping determine which frequencies need attention.
Vibroacoustic Therapy is then used to entrain the body and brain to return to a natural state, using tactile vibrations and audio techniques. After a minimum two weeks of residential treatment, a second brain map is conducted to measure changes in neuroplasticity and brain normalization.
inHarmony Sound Lounge Systems
At SJRP, we utilize two of inHarmony Interactive’s flagship Sound Lounge systems. The wave-shaped padded loungers are equipped with four built-in tactile transducers that emit low-frequency vibrations to stimulate the body and mind, inducing a state of utmost relaxation.
Clients experience an amazing “musical massage” where every cell feels invigorated and restored. They often state it’s the most relaxed they have felt in a very long time. VAT also helps clients learn to meditate by using comforting, repetitive vibrational patterns and music that induce brainwave and body wave states that allow individuals to elevate to a meditative state.
It works wonders for insomnia and muscle fatigue and reduces stress and anxiety. For the same reason that babies fall asleep in car seats is why everyone feels comforted when lying on a VAT table. It is a completely non-invasive, holistic, unique experience that always puts our clients in a better mood.
We offer a myriad of ways to utilize this amazing technology to help make our clients’ stay more impactful.

Revolutionary for Recovery
SJRP has multiple VAT-certified therapists to ensure clients receive the best possible experience. For those of you that love music, which is just about all of us, listening to familiar songs in rock, country, pop, etc., through a Sound Lounge is one of the most enjoyable things you will ever do!
We cannot emphasize enough how unique this experience is in our industry. This transformative offering and experience have a tremendously positive impact on the care we provide. For many of our clients, it’s the reason they chose SJRP and we’re excited to continue to grow these services as this technology blossoms.
