We know it may not be the sentence you feel like reading right now. But congratulations on finally convincing yourself for choosing the right treatment and looking into drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs.

Today, over 30 million men, women, and children struggle with substance use disorders. Yet, statistically, many people who wrestle with addiction will never receive the help they need to beat substance abuse. Hence why we are so excited to see you hear.

It Can Be Hard to Find the Right Addiction Recovery Program for You, But You Can Ask Your Doctor to Help Youu Decide

It Can Be Hard to Find the Right Addiction Recovery Program for You, But You Can Ask Your Doctor to Help You Decide

Beginning the process of finding a drug and alcohol rehab center for you or a loved one is no easy task. And more often than not, it can be a challenging time for you to get up the courage to look for helpful recovery treatments. Looking for an addiction treatment site that is right for you and your family can be an overwhelming challenge for a person.

But, we assure you. Finding a recovery site that can work with you and your specific diagnosis does not have to be as unsettling or nerve-racking as it sounds.

Two Steps to Prepare You for Doing Your Own Research on Drug and Alcohol Treatment Options

Yes, researching to find an addiction treatment center that meets your needs can be tedious and exhausting. Still, we cannot stress the importance of being treated for a drug or alcohol use disorder in a quality, professional rehab facility.

Unfortunately, the year 2020 has brought so many new challenges to Americans and people across the globe. Stress levels and addiction rates have been skyrocketing. And currently, the opioid epidemic we have faced in this country for decades is at its worst. Substance use disorders and addictions are dangerous, even life-threatening mental health disorders. They often change a person’s entire world once they get a hold of someone. And they often require treatment to beat.

“Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep going. Tough situations build strong people in the end.” – Roy T. Bennett

The individual who refuses to pursue therapy in an addiction treatment setting could risk losing family, friends, home, job, spouse, health, etc.

And once again, that is why we are so glad that you are here. Because now that you are showing interest in enrolling in addiction treatment, we can begin to discuss how to make the process of enrollment much easier for yourself and others.

To begin, you must do two things.

First, do your best not to research alone. Get a trusted friend or close relative to help you look through your treatment options. During this time, you’ll find a lot of information flying your way. Without help, it will be harder to remember which therapy programs and recovery centers you like. Second, don’t take too long to decide which rehab center you want to enroll in. But don’t rush the process either. Not all rehab facilities are made with your best interest in mind.

And now that addiction cases are rising, and program enrollments are picking up, more healthcare providers may be taking shortcuts in their recovery treatments.

Key Factors You Should Consider in Your Health Care Research

So then, what should you look for when researching addiction treatment opportunities or a new healthcare provider?

To be honest, there are many key factors you’ll need to consider. But, each of these factors can help narrow down the playing field, so you can eventually decide on a couple of therapy programs to apply to or enroll in.

First and foremost, keep in mind that the best medical treatment service for you will not be the best for everyone else. And as a result, you must look for a recovery center that can work with your specific goals and healing needs.

Consider Your Support Options, There is More than One Treatment That Works for Drug and Alcohol Recovery

Starting your recovery journey can be tricky. But, we know just the place for you to start!

After you have decided that you or a loved one require treatment to beat substance abuse, you can begin looking into your recovery options. In many cases, the first step of this process may have you ask your doctor for recommendations and treatment advice. And although speaking with your physician is an excellent example of finding recovery options.

Luckily, many patients have more than one treatment option available to them today.

Not Everyone Responds to Different Treatments in Addiction Therapy The Same

Today, there are many other health supports you can rely on besides a hospital or medical staff when seeking treatment for a substance use disorder.

One of the most helpful and commonly discussed therapeutic services is inpatient treatment, otherwise known as residential rehab. However, did you know that alcohol and drug abuse residential treatment is not the only recovery option? Typically, inpatient rehab is only the first or second step a person may take when being treated for a drug or alcohol use disorder.

Other common addiction treatments include the following.

Medical Detox Programs

A form of medical treatment, medical detoxification is the first step individuals take to begin their recovery journey.

Generally, these programs last anywhere from two to three weeks. They involve clients receiving around-the-clock health care. And can include medication assistance and often begin to introduce individuals to therapy sessions they may encounter in their inpatient treatment. All while they work through the symptoms of substance abuse withdrawal.

Patients can undergo these services at either a specialized hospital, detox center, or inpatient rehab facility.

Inpatient and Residential Rehab Programs

After completing medical detox, clients can transfer into an inpatient/residential rehab program. These programs are probably the most well-known recovery services the general public is familiar with. Yet, despite the program’s familiarity, inpatient treatments can look vastly different from one center to the next.

Traditionally, residential programs involve clients receiving 24/7 care.

While in inpatient treatment, individuals live in campus quarters. And during their stay, they engage in treatment programs like cognitive-behavioral therapy and support groups to help their healing. These programs can be 30 days to a year-long in some cases, depending on the recovery center and the individual’s needs.

Partial Hospitalization Services

Otherwise known as partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), these recovery services are less commonly used than inpatient treatment or outpatient programs. However, that does not mean these health care options do not help treat addiction.

PHPs also offer clients particular care while enrolled in the rehab program, but they are generally used as transitionary services.

These transition programs can either be overseen by a doctor or a physician in a specialized hospital. Or, they may be conducted in inpatient centers or their specialized treatment facilities. These programs usually only last a couple of weeks but can significantly benefit clients who need a little extra time preparing for the next phase of their recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Services

Like partial hospitalization services, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are transitionary recovery options individuals can use when preparing for life in outpatient treatment. Usually, these services can last anywhere from two to three weeks, generally following the completion of an inpatient treatment program.

But unlike inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient programs do not engage in round-the-clock supervision practices.

Research evidence has shown that these treatment programs are most helpful to clients when they slowly begin to back into outpatient care.

So, as time in the program goes on, your doctor or attending medical personnel will begin to give you more time by yourself. To some clients, the opportunity to decide what they are doing with their time again can feel like a great reward for the hard work they have done. And they may be ready to go into outpatient care programs sooner. Still, other patients may find entering into outpatient treatment daunting. And as a result, IOPs were developed to help individuals wean off the structure of their inpatient rehab and into the process of living everyday life while undergoing treatment.

Outpatient Programs

Last but not least, we have outpatient treatment programs. Outpatient programs are arguable, the last “structured” phase of addiction treatment.

These programs are helpful to patients who are beginning to find their way in the world again. Because while enrolled in outpatient services, patients do not need to live on a rehab campus to gain access to a doctor or their therapist. In fact, patients in outpatient recovery can live in their own homes, have a job, and start engaging in a recovery community outside of their addiction rehab center. All while still returning to their rehab facility for group and individual therapy sessions.

These programs usually are pretty short-lived, lasting anywhere from one to three months. And once they are complete, a client can say they have graduated from their rehabilitation program.

Additional Factors to Keep in Mind When Making Treatment Decisions

Recovery pursuit never really ever ends for most people.

But that does not mean the recovery journey always feels like you are putting in exhausting work to achieve your goals. There is almost always a new challenge or temptation they must learn to overcome to maintain sobriety. And some individuals may even find the need to benefit from addiction treatment practices again if they fall victim to relapse.

The good news is, this is all completely normal. And evidence shows that even the most challenging aspects of recovery get easier in time.

Even individuals who do not struggle with addiction can find it helpful to talk to their doctor about different health concerns. Just like it is helpful for everyone to discuss life and relearn lessons as we work through new challenges.

At the end of the day, everyone is learning to live and grow together. And this fact does not change in the presence of drug or alcohol use disorder and addiction treatment.

Many Patients Must Resist the Urge to Rush into The First Treatment Option They Have

Many Patients Must Resist the Urge to Rush into The First Treatment Option They Have

Now that you know about addiction treatment services, it is time to start looking into rehabs that may best suit you.

Remember, though; you must take your time and find evidence for yourself on the usefulness of the programs you are looking into for you and your condition.

Honestly, it is fantastic that you have so much excitement about getting your addiction treatment started. However, it is important that even as a patient who requires medical treatment for addiction intervention, you do not rush the process of picking a therapy program.

Because although every person struggling with drug or alcohol addiction can benefit from substance abuse rehab. There is evidence to prove that not every treatment center may be right for you.

Additional factors you will want to consider before enrolling in an addiction rehab include the following.

Personal Recovery Goals

Your recovery goals! There is a difference between something you want to get out of addiction treatment and something you need.

When it comes to finding the proper addiction treatment for you, you’ll want to find a facility that can ideally accommodate your wants and needs. But try to remember to be realistic. Recovery takes time. And luxury rehabs do not always mean a better recovery experience.

The Specific Treatments and Therapies Offered by The Rehab

We’ve said it before, and we will repeat it. Not all drug and alcohol rehabs are made the same. And although many of them share similar treatment principles, this does not mean that they all offer the same recovery services.

There are many different therapy methods that individuals can use in addiction treatment. Some of them involve traditional practices like cognitive-behavioral treatments. And others can apply more holistic techniques like music or animal therapy.

Before starting treatment, you’ll want to check that your recovery center can support your therapeutic needs. And suppose they cannot offer you a program for something you like. In that case, you’ll need to consider if you can do without these particular programs in your rehab treatments.

The Treatment Center’s Location

There are thousands of drug and alcohol rehab centers across the country! Some can be closer to home for you and others further away.

It can be hard to tell which locations will work best for you when it comes to addiction recovery.

In some instances, people who need a complete reset to heal will probably do best attending a treatment center from home. But, those who may still have young children at home may want to stay closer to home while in rehab. And in other cases, an individual may not know which option will work best for them. You can speak with your relatives or your doctor to see which option they would recommend for you in this event.

And then, from there, you can begin looking for recovery centers either closer to or farther from home.

Physical Amenities the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center Provides

Today, there are rehab centers that tailor to the luxury experience. Meanwhile, there are treatment centers that cater more to the budget. And even still, some networks provide amenities that fall in-between luxury and budget calculations.

When trying to find the right center for you, you’ll want to consider what will help you focus on your healing in your off-time. But, you will also want to keep your budget in mind.

Luxury centers often cost a great deal more than budget-friendly centers. Most of the time, the amenities they provide add no extra comfort to the healing experience. At the end of the day, try to choose somewhere that can help you reach your treatment goals. While also keeping you as comfortable as possible through this learning experience.

Insurance and The Cost of Therapy

Insurance is a complex subject itself. But, although insurance companies provide financial assistance for their consumers attending rehab, not every treatment center and health care coverage policy will mix.

When you research the facility you are interested in, try to find out what types of payments they accept. Additionally, please find out how much their recovery programs cost and what insurance policies they accept.

The Length of the Rehab Program

When considering enrollment, you may not need to consider how long a partial hospitalization program lasts. Generally, those programs only last a couple of weeks.

But, when you are looking to enroll in an inpatient program especially. You’ll want to be sure you will get a long enough treatment duration to solidify your progress in healing.

Most inpatient programs last either 30, 60, or 90 days. But some programs can last up to a year or more. Typically the rule of thumb is that the longer or more severe your substance use condition, the more time you should try to spend in inpatient rehab.

What the Rehab Center Specializes In

Some drug and alcohol rehab centers only specialize in traditional treatment practices. Meanwhile, other rehab facilities focus on holistic healing or merging traditional and alternative recovery methods to make the best possible individualized program. As a result, when you are looking for a substance abuse treatment center for yourself or your loved one, you’ll have to try and keep in mind what you think would work best for you.

For example, would it be better for you to have fewer options to better focus on your primary healing treatments? Or, do you think you would like to try new things in recovery?

Research evidence has shown that alternative and traditional methods (or a combination of the two) can benefit patients. In fact, scientists have found that varying recovery options can be good in various settings, including cancer treatment.

You need only to choose which one you think is best for you.

The Treatment Center’s Post-Program Support Options

When a patient tries to find a type of treatment that works for them or a family member, they can quickly begin to feel overwhelmed.

There are many different kinds of therapy to consider. They may need to ask doctors for a second opinion on which treatment options would be best. Yet, even though making treatment decisions can sometimes feel like an impossible task, it’s important to remember a few things.

First, recovery is not a sprint. Your treatment decision-making is meant to aid you in preparing for the marathon of recovery.

Second, suppose one care option does not treat you like you thought it would, or your patient preferences change. In that case, you can always seek out other treatment to help you further your recovery.

Third, addiction recovery options do not begin and end with your care team in inpatient rehab. And even though you may expect all recovery care team contact to end after your outpatient program ends. Some addiction treatment facilities offer patients the opportunity to engage in a post-program support community. Often these programs are not as involved as other addiction treatment options. But they can allow you to reconnect with your care team when you need extra support.

Making Decisions – Comparing Doctors, Therapy, Treatment Advice, and Choosing Your Rehab Program

At the end of the day, addiction comes with many physical and mental health risks. Living with the condition untreated can affect how you relate to family and friends. It can even lead to complications with your overall health and job.

Now that you have decided to enroll in rehab, you don’t need to feel alone or scared. Family members, friends, and even your doctor can engage in the shared decision-making process to help you get into a recovery center that is right for you.
