If you or a loved one struggles with substance abuse or addiction, you may experience fear, concern, and anxiety daily. But there is good news. Addiction is a treatable condition, no matter who you are, where you are, or what your age may be.
Taking that initial step towards healing by enrolling in a recovery program can be daunting and slightly terrifying for many. For the first time in months or even years, you are committing to do something challenging for yourself without the assistance of drugs or alcohol. On paper, or to someone who has never dealt firsthand with the effects of addiction, the task may seem simple enough. But for anyone who has a history of struggling with addiction or substance abuse knows very well just how complex this process may be.
That is why here at St. John’s Recovery Place (SJRP), our West Melbourne rehab center and other facilities work diligently to try and make you feel as at home, comfortable, and prepared for starting treatment as possible. More than anyone else, our attending staff members recognize the importance of quality care and companionship and compassion amongst recoveries and therapy professionals. Working through drug and alcohol rehab in West Melbourne can be challenging.
The recovery process is a lot of work. But taking that first step and walking through those fronts doors of our recovery center is just the beginning of significant changes and exciting developments in your life. It may be difficult at times, you may feel nervous or anxious, but once you start, you’ll be well on your way to a life of healing and happiness.
Day One of Rehab: What to Expect in Your First Steps
The first day of rehab can be nerve-racking. The process works to be as smooth as a transition as possible. But, just like how every rehab center may operate differently on even the same guiding principles, the intake process to begin addiction treatment can vary from person to person quite drastically.
Still, to begin your drug and alcohol rehab program in the St. John’s Recovery Place West Melbourne treatment office, you will have already completed a considerable amount of work. You’ve spoken with family members, friends, your doctor, your insurance company, and our admissions team to get the ball rolling.
You’ve filled out paperwork, asked and answered a large variety of questions, and made arrangements for yourself to enter into the world of addiction treatment. At this point, you may feel as though answering questions and working through the assessments process should finish. After all, you began your SJRP treatment journey with an extensive over-the-phone screening. But to begin the recovery journey with SJRP, we still need to complete a few more things to start treatment.
On your first day of rehab, you will find yourself keeping pretty busy. We need to make sure you have all that you need to successfully navigate treatment and understand what to expect from the course of your inpatient program. So, to begin your stay with us, we will start by answering any questions you or your loved ones have upon intake.
From there, you can expect the start of your inpatient rehab program with SJRP to include:
- We begin by being greeted compassionately by our professional care team in our intake room.
- While you are in the intake room, we will welcome you and answer any questions you or your family may have.
- We will collect any applicable payments.
- We will also make copies of your ID and insurance cards for your medical file with us.
- Once your family receives the details on when and how they can contact you after the detox process and leave, we will begin the remainder of your intake processing. The rest of the intake process includes:
- A non-invasive bodily search of your person; the examination will be conducted by a treatment specialist or nurse.
- You are having your belongings checked for SJRP campus regulation compliance.
- We are placing your ID cards, cash, and other identification or monetary belongings into our safe for secure keeping.
- Your belongings are safely stored, our admissions team will help you complete your pre-admission paperwork.
- Once you complete your admissions documentation, we will lead you to the nurse to undergo evaluation.
- In your evaluation process, you will have the opportunity to speak with your treatment staff as they discuss your starting schedule. They will go over detox details, which therapy programs to start with, expectations, and answer any questions you may have regarding treatment in our West Melbourne rehab center.
- From this point, you will get to see where you will be staying during the duration of your inpatient program and go on a tour of our treatment facilities to help you relax and feel more well-acquainted with your new surroundings.
The intake process is a daunting task for many. But we promise you that the entire process is over before you know it. The very next morning, you will begin your detox program, starting on the beginnings of your treatment path to healing. And sooner than you think, you will have a routine laid before you that you will begin to feel secure and ready to start your journey.
The intake process is different for everyone. But enrolling in and starting your inpatient rehabilitation journey does not have to be just an emotional and stressful experience. Starting rehab can be exciting too!
Here at SJRP want to make the beginning stages of rehab as seamless as possible for you. For that reason, we put our most significant focus on making you feel as though you are a part of the SJRP family of healing and growing. Even after you complete your inpatient work here at our rehab in West Melbourne or other locations, we will be here to cheer you on, guide you, celebrate your every victory, and comfort you through every hardship.
Once a member of the St. John’s family, always a member of the St. John’s family. SJRP is a safe space for you to recover in.
